Monique’s Journey to Open Employment
Rise Training combines structure, support, and lived experience to create a pathway into meaningful work. Monique’s story is just one example of the life-changing impact this model can have.
From burnout to breakthrough
After stepping away from a university degree during the peak of COVID in 2022, Monique was left feeling flat and unsure about the future. ‘I was burnt out, had no routine, no direction’ she recalls. ‘I needed something to help me find my feet again.’ That’s when her employment agency introduced her to Rise Training, a program that would go on to redefine her career path.
Monique threw herself into the program, working through Rise Training’s 20 employment capabilities alongside practical digital skills. But for Monique, the biggest shift was social.
“Being around people again was huge. I’d gone from isolation to collaborating with other trainees. It changed how I manage relationships and gave me confidence in workplace settings.”
Coming from a background without part-time work or formal job experience, Monique often felt overshadowed in the job market. Rise Training filled that gap, helping her develop soft skills that made her job-ready and self-assured.
Today, Monique is in full-time employment, using the skills she gained at Rise every single day.
“If I hadn’t attended Rise Training, I wouldn’t be in this job. It gave me a network and the confidence to push forward. Now, I have people who can vouch for me, and that makes a world of difference.”
Her advice to others?
“Give it your all. Be persistent. If you’re willing to learn and show up 110%, you’ll get the opportunity.”
From the Program Manager, Natarsha
Rise Training’s model is built around real-world learning in a supportive environment. Trainees like Monique don’t just learn skills, they apply them on the job, supported by mentors and tailored development plans.
“We believe people learn best by doing” says Natarsha, “That’s why we focus on developing soft skills within an actual workplace setting.”
Monique worked closely with mentors and staff to build her confidence in teamwork and communication. Her support plan extended into her role as well, with Rise continuing to check in and offer guidance to both her and her employer.
While Monique’s journey had challenges, including a difficult interstate induction process, Rise stepped in to make it possible.
“We made sure she had the right supports to travel, and we even engaged our partner organisation in Sydney to provide local, on-the-ground support throughout her induction week.”
This commitment ensured Monique’s transition was not only successful, but empowering.
Monique’s success has inspired others in the program, reinforcing the idea that open employment is possible and attainable.
“When other trainees saw Monique get a job, it gave them hope,” says Natarsha. “It’s powerful to see someone like you succeed, it makes the goal feel real.”
Rise Training combines structure, support, and lived experience to create a pathway into meaningful work. Monique’s story is just one example of the life-changing impact this model can have, not just for trainees, but for the employers who welcome them.
“Our graduates bring resilience, loyalty, and a true appreciation for the opportunity. They’re ready to work, eager to learn, and bring value to any workplace.”
